The United Women in Faith will receive an update from Leeann Danley, an elementary school teacher in Waynesburg, PA, on the status of the Guatemalan Children’s Scholarship Project. The meeting will include a slide presentation by Leeann and a Zoom call with some of the children and parents of scholarship recipients in Patzun, Guatemala.
Leeann has just returned from an annual visit to the children on July 26-August 14. She also travels there at Christmas with gifts.
Leeann has been selling handmade felted Christmas ornaments for several years now in support of the scholarship fund for children in Patzun, Guatemala. We Wesley UWF women met her in 2019 at a flea market at Wesley where she was buying lots of children’s toys. When we heard of her charity, we started to lend our support by selling ornaments before Christmas. We will be selling them again this year at church starting in November.
This will be a wonderful way to get acquainted with some families in Guatemala through the Zoom call and to learn about the results of more than a decade of fundraising to improve the education and life chances for these children and young people. It is a very inspiring story and a glimpse of life in another country.
