Local Mission Opportunities

Here are just a few of the many opportunities to get involved in outreach and make a meaningful impact in Morgantown and beyond:

Scott’s Run Settlement House: Scott’s Run Settlement House is a nonprofit organization affiliated with the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Scott’s Run is dedicated to assisting individuals and families in Monongalia County facing economic hardship. Since its founding in the 1920s, Scott’s Run has expanded its services to address food insecurity, provide essential supplies, and offer programs that uplift the community.

Wesley UMC plays a vital role in supporting Scott’s Run mission through various initiatives:

  • Packing weekend snack packs: Assembling bags of shelf-stable meals for children to take home over weekends, ensuring they have access to nutritious food when school meals are unavailable. Wesley UMC volunteers on the second Wednesday of the month at 12:30 p.m.
  • Donating school supplies to equip students for academic success.
  • Participating in ‘Undie Sunday’ month: Collect new underwear, undershirts, socks, and diapers to support those in need with dignity and comfort.
  • Providing Thanksgiving baskets: Help families celebrate the holiday by providing traditional meal baskets, gift cards, and monetary donations.
  • Supporting the Christmas toy drive and sponsoring families: Make the holidays brighter by contributing toys or monetary donations, ensuring children experience the joy of Christmas.
  • Decorating the hat and mitten tree: Donate new winter gear like hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves to keep the community warm.

By participating in these efforts, you help make a lasting impact on local families, sharing hope and compassion through meaningful acts of service.

Circle of Friends: Join us for our monthly Circle of Friends, where we serve free, hot meals. Held at Wesley UMC on the second and fifth Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m., this program provides nourishment, fellowship, and a welcoming space for all. Whether you’re looking for a warm meal or a chance to connect with others, we invite you to join us. Contact Carolyn Hendricks at cmhendricks@yahoo.com to volunteer.

Adulting 101: Adulting 101 is designed to equip individuals with essential life skills for navigating adulthood with confidence. From financial planning and budgeting to meal planning and canning to resume building and interview skills, each session offers practical tools and knowledge to help you thrive. Whether you’re a young adult just starting out or looking to sharpen your skills, this program is a welcoming space to learn, grow, and connect with others in the community. Join us on the third Saturday of the month at 9:30 a.m. to take a step toward mastering the art of ‘adulting’! Contact Kristi DeLeurere at intrigue329@yahoo.com to learn more, register, or volunteer.

Lampstand Team: Would you like to help our shut-in members feel more a part of our community? Then you should join the Lampstand Team! Our Lampstand Team members make it a point to stay in touch with those who cannot attend worship in person through regular cards, calls, visits, and small gifts. If you would like to be a part of this caring ministry, or if you would like to be added to the list of persons for whom the team cares, contact Pastor Martha today at wesleymorgantown@gmail.com

Narcotics Anonymous: Wesley UMC hosts Narcotics Anonymous meetings on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Lecture Room. Contact the church office at wesleymorgantown@gmail.com to learn more.
