Palm Sunday

With the virus keeping us all staying safe at home, we’re trying to come up with new and creative ways to enjoy worship together!

With Palm Sunday coming this Sunday, we had some special thoughts in mind. We would like to encourage an activity that anyone can participate in and with enough response put something special together for this weekends service to celebrate Jesus’ arrival.

Below are the instructions:

First: Create “palm branches” in any manner that you have available. Below are some examples of how they can be created using construction paper. Don’t be afraid to make your branches different colors, we may not all have green construction paper.

Second: Listen to the recording attached below. Thank you to Michael Elyard for recording “The King of Glory Comes”. The recording has all 5 verses played. Listed below are the words to the song.

Here are the lyrics to the Hymn:

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices

1.Who is the King of glory; What shall we call him?
He is Immanuel, the promised of ages

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices

2.In all of Galilee, in city or village,
He goes among his people, curing their illness

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices

3.Sing then of David’ Son, our Savior and Brother; In all of Galilee was never another

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices

4.He gave his life for us, the Lamb of salvation; he took upon himself the sin of the nations

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices

5.He conquered sin and death; he truly has risen. And he will share with us his heavenly vision

The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices.
Open the gates before him, lift up your voices.

Third: Grab your phone, your camera, your webcam… Whatever you have available and record yourself, your kids, your loved ones, your dog, your fish, whomever, singing the words to the hymn while you wave your palm branches in glory. We encourage to dance and sing with jubilation.

Here is a video of Mr. Stephen Colbert performing this very song in case you need some dance inspiration.

Fourth: Send that video to our building superintendent, Christopher Lewis at kkylewis@gmail.com

He’s going to put those videos together so we can showcase just how excited we are for Jesus’ triumphant arrival and show them during our 11 a.m. Facebook live Worship stream this Sunday. Which you can always watch at www.facebook.com/wesleymorgantown

Thank you in advance for helping create something special this Palm Sunday!
